First of all I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been driving like mad trying to make ends meet with the decrease in good freight and decrease in rates.  Had an interesting month. About once a year I get a call from a client from my geology business. Recently this happened and they wanted me to work on their project in Nevada so, I got to work with 2 really great geologists in the industrial minerals industry. I’ve gotten an opportunity to work with both of them in the past.

View from Hotel. Green River, UT

On the way down to Nevada I stopped in Green River, UT And I stayed at a really nice little hotel right beside the river. It was surrounded by trees and had balconies that looked out over the river. It was something like 99 F the evening I was there, so I opted for a room over staying in the camper. The next day I drove through one of my favorite areas in the country. I think I-70 from Green River to I-15 is one of the best drives in the country. I didn’t really have time to snap any pictures but I have in the past.

I got to the location a day or so early to receive the drill truck. Then my colleagues arrived a couple of days later. While we were waiting for the driller to not show up we toured around a bit and we found the area where the perlite was processed. I snapped a couple of pictures of the old stuff around the area. The driller that the company hired to run their drill truck fell through, so I ended up running the drill truck and helping with the geology and sampling. We snapped a few pictures of the area and the crew. My eldest son Josh volunteered to come over and help which was really nice. He was invaluable in helping us get the majority of the job finished. We got to spend time at work and after just visiting and talking.

Processing Area

One weekend we had time off and we went for a little adventure. We drove up a dirt road outside of Pioche, NV and saw an old perlite mine then we drove up tom the top of Mt Wilson and had a look around. Josh tried his fancy radio while we were up there then on the way down he found a geocache which is one of his hobbies. We also saw some cool rock outcrops. I snapped some pictures of the surrounding mountains. They look a little like watercolor paintings to me. We saw some neat country and took a few pictures. The whole area around Pioche is covered with historical mines for lead, zinc, perlite, copper and more.

We experienced a couple of monsoon rainstorms in the area we were working. The area was very picturesque. I stayed for almost a month so I got fairly familiar with the town and area. Snapped a couple of the moon and the view out the back of my trailer from the campground.
