This is a treat for me. I just finished my first video of the boat making process. The day before Thanksgiving Mike, Owen and I poured the ballast part of the Keel for the MEA. I managed to learn new software in order to edit all the different angles and formats into some sort of cohesive story. I hope you enjoy it.

This part of the project took almost a year to complete. I had to acquire all the lead as scrap all of it was purchased from Pacific Steel and Recycling. Once I got some lead, I would melt it in a pot on a turkey fryer burner and pour it into the ingots.

Scrap from Pacific Recycling.
Scrap in the pot.
Ingots
Finally have enough.

I then stored them keeping track of the amount I had so I could get more. Every month or so I would call Pacific recycling and see if they had any more lead. The first time I tried casting I used homemade green sand which didn’t work all that well. I talked to Phil at Pepper Tank about making the trough. I think it really made the difference in having a safe pour.

Please comment and ask questions if you have any.
